As part of chimney maintenance, chimneys should be inspected annually for “soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearance” according to the Chimney Safety Institute of America or CSIA for short. It is very important that we look for potential hazards in your chimney that are not always visible or obvious. We may even use a special camera system to look inside your chimney for cracks, holes, or other structural problems.
Our inspections are NFPA 211 compliant up to three levels. Level 1 includes basically the main structure from the area around the fireplace, up the smoke chamber, and chimney outside of the house or on the roof. Level 2 is required when any changes are made to the structure of the chimney, typically done before sale of a house. A level 3 inspection is needed when there are hazards noted and when it is required to determine the condition of the chimney system.
